Thesis Proposal_Topic & Direction

The inspiration for this topic is from a game <Until Drawn> which I have played many times on PS4. When I first touch this game, I was fascinated by this novel gameplay experience and thrilling storyline, because every decision and action I made and take will affect all characters’ life, so on the other side, I am the “director” to control the whole story. This flexible storyline and clever operation way can drag every player closer to the story.

In recent years, there have been many similar games and shows appearing on the screen and receiving a lot of praise, such as Detroit: Become Human, The Dark Picture Anthology: Little Hope, Black Mirror: Bandersnatch, etc. So I’m curious if these are a fresh start for the Narrative Games and interactive movies? To find out my question, I list my points firstly so that I can start some research surrounding these points.

Thesis Points:

  • Can games and movies really be combined? And will they be loved by the public?
  • Will they be sustainable in the future, or will they be short-lived?
  • Will the production cost and actor requirements be higher?
  • If the Metaverse World rally appears in the future, will it be popularized in the Metaverse World?

Through these points, I have expanded some details, as the following points show:

Can games and movies really be combined? And will they be loved by the public?

  • Whether you are pursuing a pure gaming feeling or want to watch a movie in peace?
  • Will it increase or decrease the original fun on the basis of the work itself?
  • Are the audience and player simply curious or genuinely interested in this new representation?

Will they be sustainable in the future, or will they be short-lived? Will the production cost and actor requirements be higher?

  • Will there be a lot of improvement in terms of production time and cost and shooting skills? Does this need a special camera or machine for shooting?
  • Are there limitations to the subject matter of such works?
  • Are there any flaws or failures in previous similar films or games?

If the Metaverse World rally appears in the future, will it be popularized in the Metaverse World?

  • Will such technologies increase people’s interest or satisfy their experiences and demands when Metaverse time does materialize?
  • Is the work produced by today’s VR interactive devices feasible and recognized today?

For the next step, I will start some research and then summarize them.
